What is Underwater Hockey?
Similar to the sport that is played and enjoyed by millions of Canadians, underwater hockey consists of players pushing a puck along a surface to try and score a goal. Games consist of two teams, each comprised of six players, in a face-paced environment containing a mixture of teamwork, strategy, and physicality. What makes this sport especially unique, however, is in the name ... it is played underwater!
This sport being played aquatically introduces a variety of aspects to the game we all know and love. 3D movement allows players to traverse over, under, and around each other during a game, opening doors to a wider variety of strategies during gameplay. Additionally, the fact that players are submerged during play requires an understanding of proper breathwork and a constant cycle of being above/below the surface between players on a team.
Here is one of our team members scoring a goal at Nationals that took place this past May, 2024!

GEAR
In underwater hockey, some of the gear we use includes an underwater hockey stick, a snorkel, long flippers, a mask, a protective cap, and a glove.
